About Jeff

I’m Jeff Hodges. I graduated from Bowling Green State University in 2006. My major was Physics, my minor was Mathematics and I learned a lot about programming, too. Also, philosophy, but less so.

I sometimes read dictionaries for fun.

Encyclopedia Brown was one of my favorite series of books as a kid.

I like to dance. A lot.

I often forget to eat meals. My friends worry about that. Fortunately, no one has misunderstood and said “Jeff, you’re anorexic” because I don’t think they would believe “No, I’m just terribly forgetful” by that point. I mean, have you ever forgotten that you were going to go to the bathroom? I have. Did you spend your first 17 years of life not knowing that Sunday was laundry day up until you said “You know, we should have a laundry day” after being asked for 3 days straight to bring down your laundry and your mom and brother just gave you a blank look and then your brother said “Jeff, laundry day is Sunday” and you just barely remembered that today was Tuesday and could only reply “Oh.” and then they started laughing and shaking their heads? I have. I’m too busy remembering that you lived in Room 416, which was easy to recall because four squared is sixteen, so I only really had to remember one number and an operation. I mean, come on. How could I possibly remember anything else?

I do this thing people call the “owl eye thing”. I can put one eyelid down while keeping the other eyelid all the way up and scan the room. I hear it’s pretty freaky looking.

I hate getting up and I hate going to sleep. Everything in between is pretty awesome.

I’m agnostic.

I wear corrective lenses. Usually, just contacts.

I hear that my eyes look good. I enjoy seeing what color my eyes appear in different lighting, and I’m starting to appreciate them.

I’m a very long-limbed 6′2″. With a 35 inch inseam, any sink can make you look like you’ve peed yourself.

I wrote some code that I like. It got me recruited by a company in Los Angeles. I hope to write more.

I’d like to get my PhD in Physics and specialize in quantum computation and quantum information science. Really, I want to work in those fields because I think they’re the best routes towards the next big thing in foundational physics. That is to say, I not-so-secretly hope to be one of those guys revolutionizing theoretical physics.

Not surprisingly for a physics-revolutionary-wannabe, I’m a Feynman fanboy. There, I said it. Fanboy. I have far too many Feynman related things. Blame my uncle Vijay for sending me the audio CDs of Six Easy Pieces when I was in high school.

I want a large dog, but I also want to do some more traveling on my own before I get one.

Among my friends, the most common major is Digital Arts. I don’t know how I did that. Nerds, all of them. Yes, you, Dave. I’m talking about you, roommate Dave, as well as Josh and Mary. Nerds. All of you. Also, Autumn, I see you back there reading that damn pirate book. You might be an official teacher now, but you’ll always be the token English nerd.

Okay, enough for now.
